We write this note to tell you about the progress being made on the development of a public apology.
The Marist Brothers would first like to thank all those who contributed and provided feedback on what aspects of a public apology were important to them. Your input has significantly helped shape the event as it comes together.
I especially want to acknowledge the Survivors Public Apology & Redress Committee (SPAR), who continue to help guide and shape this event. Our discussions, along with their advice and recommendations, are invaluable in ensuring the event is a safe and brave space for all survivors and their whānau.
A number of different venues and dates have been visited and considered. We are mindful of the geographical spread of survivors across Aotearoa and overseas, and we are taking measures to ensure the event is accessible via video link for those who are unable to attend in person.
The Marist Brothers can confirm they will be offering a public apology on Saturday, 9 May 2026, with the event to be held at the Hyundai Marine Sports Centre. More details, including the schedule, will be shared in the coming weeks.
This date has been chosen to ensure those attending have time to plan and make any necessary travel arrangements. The venue was selected for its accessible location, neutral environment, and calming atmosphere.
If you have any questions regarding the Marist Brothers public apology, please share them with Jonathan and Carlene at PSO@pacificdps.com and we will do our best to answer them in our February 27th update.
Thank you
