Our core documents

Our spiritual patrimony dates from the 1820s, and as text with the notebooks and letters of St Marcellin Champagnat and the early brothers, to our Rule and then Constitutions in its various forms, together with the circulars of superiors general and other writings and research, all of which can be found on our Institute website. The documents to which we constantly return since 1998, apart from the Constitutions, are In the footsteps of Marcellin Champagnat: A vision for Marist education today; Water from the Rock; and Gathered Round the Same Table. They represent a gradual deepening of our spirituality in a way where we 'widen the space of our tent' and in which with the Mendes document and the 21st General Chapter document we move into greater collaboration and co-responsibility for the gift to the whole Church that is our Champagnat charism, brothers and lay men and women together.
