Marist Lay Matters
February 2010

Welcome to the New Year for Marist Lay Matters

What’s New?

A year of hope and promise lies before us. Last year was the a time of taking stock internationally in the Institute of the Marist Brothers as the General Chapter was completed, the document “Gathered Around the Same Table” was finalised and the Shared Formation Experience was held at St Paul Trois Chateaux in France. This year the New Zealand Province, in association with Oceania, is challenged to make sense of such outcomes and implement and establish appropriate plans and actions in response.
The Marist laity together with the Brothers is taking responsibility for the charism throughout Oceania. It is a privilege in a changing environment to be able to engage fully in the charism of St Marcellin Champagnat living the Gospels through our chosen lay vocation and various ministries.

What’s up?

Recently I experienced three very different communities; St Louis School in Kiribati, Verdon College in Invercargill and St Patrick’s Primary School in Greymouth. This meant travelling from the northern most community to the southernmost community of the New Zealand Province in three days. Fortunately Invercargill was celebrating beautiful summer weather when I got there.
